What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that corrects an irregular bite. The system uses clear plastic aligners that fit over your teeth. The aligners are customized to your smile goals, and you often get results in a shorter time than with metal braces. Your treatment plan lasts 1-2 years.

With Invisalign, you get a series of plastic aligners (or trays) that gradually shift your teeth into their ideal placement, changing aligners every week or two. You need to wear the aligners 20-22 hours daily, even when you sleep.

What bite problems can Invisalign correct?

Braces aren’t the only way to improve your bite. Invisalign can help most bite problems, including:

  • Crossbite and open bite
  • Overbite and underbite
  • Crowded teeth
  • Large spaces between teeth
  • Generally crooked teeth

Invisalign can correct multiple bite problems at once.

How are Invisalign aligners created?

Your customized Invisalign plan starts with a thorough evaluation of your bite. Your dentist at WPD Dental Group takes a 3D scan of your teeth to determine the optimal shift pattern. The 3D scans and treatment plan are then sent to an Invisalign lab for fabrication.

In about six weeks, when your aligners arrive, you come to WPD Dental Group for fitting. Your dentists may attach small “buttons” to your teeth used to attach the aligners. They teach you to care for the aligners and switch them out at home.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Compared to braces, Invisalign aligners are barely noticeable.

And aligners provide other benefits as compared to other orthodontic treatments. With Invisalign, there are no dietary restrictions. You take the trays out to eat and drink. This makes it easier, too, to practice good hygiene because you can remove the trays to brush and floss.

Aligners are comfortable and cause little to no rubbing or friction. There are no wires or brackets to come loose or break. This means fewer visits to the WPD Dental Group office. Checkups are usually scheduled every 6-8 weeks.

Teens like Invisalign because they can remove them for special events, like prom, and during contact sports. Invisalign for teens features a blue indicator tab that lets parents and dentists know if the aligners are being worn enough to get results.
